  1. I have a 4K 60Hz 10 bit (Asus PA329C) monitor with DP 1.2, HDMI 2.0 and USB Type C (3.0) ports. Can the new Surface Pros either directly or via this dock or another adapter deliver a 4K 60Hz signal to my monitor? What will be my USB speed to go with that signal? Thanks!

  2. Thank you, was counter intuitive as my monitors bandwidth is limited to 5Gb/s via the USB C port so great you clarified!

    • I think your monitor requires two cables to have the USB ports work at 5Gb/s though. One cable for display and one cable for USB data – take a close look at the manual because each monitor vendor seems to do it differently.

  3. Could the Surface Dock 2 support dual (2x) QHD (2560×1440@60Hz) monitors (or 2x with even lower resolution) for the older Surface models (e.g., Go, Pro [2017], Pro 6, Laptop 1, Laptop 2, Book 2) via the 2x rear-facing USB-C display ports?

  4. Problem with Surface Dock 2 connected to Surface Book3 and two Benq 27″ monitors Model No GL2750-B. using HDMI to USB-C cables, plugged in to the rear USB-C ports (i.e. same side as network cable). Windows 10 latest updates. Neither monitor displays although both monitors are picked up in Windows Display settings but both are greyed out. Monitors keep displaying no HDMI signal. Have tried different cables but no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

  5. Between us (family & cousins) we have Surface Pro 3, 4 and 5.
Why would it work with Pro 4 and not with 3 and 5? Curious why so?

Also have an old Surface Pro dock fro 4/5 timeframe being used by dad on his Pro 5.

Wondering if I can have this new device work with the Pro 5 and pull the old one for use with Pro 3?

    Or any other suggestions/ solutions?

  6. I have a couple Asus Zenscreen (MB16AMT and MB16AC) and while both work using the rear USB-C ports, they seem to work better on the front ones. The rear ports only supply 7.5w and the monitor wants 8w. It works but I get constant warning that the USB device might not supply enough power. Using the front port supplies enough power and no more annoying message.

    • Interesting. I’m curious, did you notice any difference in responsiveness between having the screens plugged into the front vs rear? Plugging into the front means that the DisplayLink chipset is being used while plugging into the rear means that DisplayPort alt mode is used. Typically, there is about 50-100ms lag when using DisplayLink via the front ports. For office apps, its hard to tell the difference.

You might want to experiment with having both the USB-C cable plugged into the rear along with a USBA->microUSB cable to see if the second cable provides extra power.

  7. Hello, I have a Surface Pro 4 and since it works with both Surface Docks, I’m not sure which one to buy…
My goal is to connect the SP4 to a 4K@60hz monitor and a 1920p@60hz TV at the same time. Is that possible with one of the two docks ? (with max resolution and frame rate)
    Thank you in advance.

    • Because Microsoft doesn’t officially support the Dock 2 on Pro4, I recommend opting for the Dock 1. You should be able to find them used on ebay for a decent price,
Either Dock will run 4K60 + 1080p60 no problem with decent cables/adapters. Avoid HDMI where possible.

  8. Hi Danchar,
i am curious that since Dock 2 works well on SP4, why isn’t SP4 officially supported?
Does the usb-c charing via dock 2 to SP4 work?
and since dock 2 works, does the surface connect to usb-c also work?
    thanks!
